|clessaileron||03:27 am - Tales fandom, I'm trying hard to resist being like William Shatner in that one SNL skit!|
After seeing the last entry here be something about the fandom of a Namco franchise, it's just too bad the next entry ends up having to deal with a fandom of another Namco franchise. And the thing is, it's me again, having to bring in the Tales fandom as a repeat offender!
Last time I talked about the Tales fandom here, it was about how so many of them were irate over PS3 Tales of Vesperia and the so-called beta known as Xbox 360 Tales of Vesperia. However, I also mentioned they are constantly rabid about how they aren't localizing the other Tales games.
Yeah, Namco Bandai ended up saying they have no plans for a localization of the PS3 Tales of Vesperia.
Now, it's pretty weird how between Tales of Graces and PS3 Tales of Vesperia, people give more of a damn about seeing PS3 Tales of Vesperia, a port of all things, rather than Tales of Graces, a new(er) installment. Hard part is that I don't even know how many of them already played the original version rather than ones owning only PS3s and haven't played it. It's disappointing, yeah. Even then, I can't justify their behavior over this.
And I think the worst is seeing certain comments when Namco Bandai had to announce news of lay-offs within the company. I already saw my share of comments dealing with the news. Now, one that made me face palm was from the source I linked, found one where someone's comment about the news story can be summed up as, "Good! They deserve that punishment for not localizing more Tales games!"
Never have I seen the Tales fandom fall this low! So, 600 people deserved to be laid off because they aren't obeying your every whim and pandering to your Tales needs? Dude, I'm pretty sure the economy (not just the U.S.) still isn't doing so well and the last thing people want to see is a good number of the working force having to be laid off! Geez! Didn't seem like they did anything that got them fired beforehand (remember, there's a difference between getting fired and getting laid off!). Honestly, say what you will about what they do (whatever it's their marketing or releasing Tales of Graces in close proximity to Final Fantasy XIII), but saying 600 people deserved to be laid off because Namco isn't localizing more Tales game is one of the lowest thing I've ever seen!
You know that infamous SNL skit where William Shatner was at a Star Trek convention and had to berate the fans there by yelling a certain thing to them? Well, I'm trying to refrain from that but man, are they really pushing me to do so! However, considering how nerdy I am, I'm probably the last person that should be saying something like that!
Man, it's something like this that makes me wish for the older days of the Tales fandom. There was stupid, sure, but I never felt it was on the level I see today!
That is so messed-up, I had no idea anything was going on like that.
Believe me. If you've been in the Tales fandom as long as I have (About 8 years), you'd see stuff like this and it'd get worse with time. And Tales is a pretty niche JRPG series itself, which means the niche will lose it real badly.
I love Tales, I hate hate hate the Tales fandom.
I still had fun before, but now every time I do to the forums I end up more stressed than before.
What I don't understand, is why they're so anal about localization when we've known for years that Namco's pretty irregular with those. I guess they were just spoiled with ToV360...
I take it they were really spoiled two years ago. Either that or they think that they can run the company better than Namco (Just because you advertise doesn't mean it automatically sell more. It just helps spread awareness. I've seen games advertised on TV that did bomb).
Hearing it so many times makes me feel like I'm not even a REAL Tales fan for not complaining about Namco's stupidity or sticking up for having them screw us over or something. *sigh* I'm surrounded by extreme consumer watchdog wannabes!
Yeah, the Tales fandom today is getting me more stressed than before too. Doesn't help that one person I cared about a lot in the fandom I haven't heard from in a long time, making it more painful.
